chess features for beginners.

Post by admin »

If you do not understand the rules of chess then go here first.

The following two chess features help beginners learn chess.

1: Capturing Path To King. This feature refers to a check against the king and that check is shown as a straight line of units starting from the attacker's piece and ending at the defenders king. The capturing path must be protected. The defender piece must capture one of the highlighted units after check is called.

2: Future Capturing Units. These are the capturing path to king that the attacking piece can capture on its next move. This shows any possible straight line attacks that the opponent can place on the defending king at the opponents next move by highlighting those units a different color.

These two features will not be displayed together. If the king is in check and there is a capturing path to king being shown then elsewhere on the gameboard will not be any future capturing units highlighted.

In the image above, the attacking queen at a5 can capture the king if the defending queen at a4 was not at that a4 unit. The defending queen can only move to unit a5, a4 or a3.

Those highlighted units of color at a5, a4, a3, and a2 show that the king is in danger. Those four units will remain highlighted in color until two defenders protect that path.

In the image above, the highlighted units show where the attacking pieces can put the defending king in jeopardy at the next move.

The queen at b6 can attack rook at f2. If queen moved to f2, the king would be in check. The straight path that is highlighted from the king to the rook shows that possible move. Queen can also check the king if queen moves to unit b1, b2 or b3.

Bishop at f1 can check the king at unit c4. The straight path of c4 and b3 shows that possible check.

The rook at d5 could capture unit d2. The straight path of units b2, c2 and d2 shows where the king could be placed in check.

The two features called the Capturing Path To King and the Future Capturing Units are only available to players with a skill level set to beginner.
